Conversations with Yannis - Arkas Olive Oil

 

In the second installation of our conversation with our producers, we move down South to Arcadia to speak to Yannis of Arkas Olive Oil, a family business runned by three generations. 


Q: Tell me more about Arkas Olive Oil

A: The ARKAS brand is inspired by our region's toponym, Arcadia, where our oil mill and the rest of our facilities have been located since 1972. Our facilities location grants us an almost exclusive connection with the Olympia oil variety, from which, our rich in polyphenols olive oil is produced. ARKAS currently manages 5,000 owned olive trees, and we handle harvesting, oil mill processing and all through to production.


Q: What does your day-to-day work life look like?

A:  Our daily life is quite busy, with a lot of responsibilities and obligations driven by both our oil mill and the olive grove. We are usually sharing those responsibilities among us and our employees, with others focusing on pruning olive trees, or cleaning the grass, or other jobs. Others are responsible for maintaining oil mill's machines, or administration jobs, or customer communication. 






Q: Do you have a specific favourite product from your brand?

A: Our high polyphenolic olive oil, that is full of beneficial, for the human body, substances, no matter how you consume it. For example, either taking one soup's spoon of this oil daily as is, or in a salad.


Q: What is your favourite place in Greece

A: Our favourite places to visit in Greece are the Cyclades' islands, Peloponeese and North Greece. Through this travel experience one can receive a lot of information on our culture and civilization together with what the local traditional cuisine is offering
